Garland Area Habitat for Humanity

Garland Habitat dedicates 82nd home! Our newly finished home on 212 Southwood is ready to dedicate to our partner family. This home is a 'school house' meaning it was partially constructed by students in the Building Trades program at Naaman Forest and North Garland High Schools. The carpentry students and the electrical students work on the home at Naaman Forest until it is ready to move then it is moved to a Habitat lot. The electrical students finish their work onsite. One such home is completed each academic year, this home is #10. Not only do students learn a valuable job skill, through United Way of Metropolitan Dallas funding the program has added a college and career prep component. This allows for special trades curriculum, college tours, memberships in Sills USA and opens the door for more students to go beyond high school. In fact the number of graduating seniors going into apprenticeships or post-secondary school had risen from 15% in 2010 to 60% in 2014. Please consider a donation to help this program continue to make a difference in the lives of these students.
